Careneros has many coves and lagoons offers white beaches with clear water and good waves for surfing. It is inhabited by Guamyes Indians, with a population of around 350 people, can be walked in under two hours, is only a two minute boat ride to the main island or a ten minutes swim across.
Pargo Rojo is constructed in a style typical of the homes of the Guaymies Indians with an open air concept, built in native wood and thatched roof right on the water on an 800 sq meters platform. It gets guests close up to the ocean and its marine life. Pargo Rojo is situated on Isla Carenero, 200 meters across from the main island of Isla Colón. Isla Carenero is the smallest of the 9 main islands that make up the Archipielago of Bocas Del Toro. This is the same island that Christhopher Columbus used to repair his boat on his 4th trip to America.
Pargo Rojo has two cabins with lofts that can accomodate up to 5 people and 3 large rooms with occupancy of up to 7 or 8 people. All of the rooms have private bathrooms, hot showers and fans.
The hotel also offers use of cayucos (typical indian canoe made of wood) free for guests. They can be used to cross over to Colón Island, go fishing or just to cruise around.
Enjoy the rustic style bar with its stools, bamboo motifs and white cane. As the bar is built around the open air kitchen you can relax with tropical cocktails as you watch the preparation of the evening's meals.
The restaurant offers an international menu with an emphasis on seafood. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinners which can be enjoyed during a beautiful sunset from its terrace over the ocean. Pargo Rojo also offers its guests Internet services.
