Punta Laurel (Laurel Point) is a small indian community at the south of Popa island, facing the Chiriqui Lagoon.
There are around 20 houses with 60 people. They do not have either electricity or health centre. Water is obtained from a nearby creek, via an aqueduct.
The local primary school with 2 classrooms and 1 teacher uses a multigrade system for the 14 students.
The villagers are mostly fishermen and carry out a bit of subsistence agriculture and cattle rearing.
Tourists are attracted by the coral reefs in the Chiriqui Lagoon, just in front of the community.
