There are essentially two types of sea bathing here - the interior, Admiral Bay or the Chiriqui Lagoon which is sheltered, and the outside, facing the open sea, which is rough.
The sheltered parts of the coast is mainly mangrove, and the open coast has the beaches and cliffs. In fact only two of the islands, Colon and Bastimentos, and both Zapatillas keys have coast to the open sea.
Here you find the best beaches: Bluff, in Colon island, Wizard and Larga on Bastimentos, and the beautiful beaches of Zapatillas Cays.
These beaches are also ecologically important as they are the nesting place of a number of species of marine turtles
Bluff Beach - On Isla Colon.
Boca del Drago - beautiful beach on the main island. When the seas are calm, the snorkelling is good.
El Istmito - closest besch to Bocas del Toro town
Paunch Beach - between Bocas del Toro Town and Bluff Beach
Playa Larga - Another lovely beach on Isla Bastimientos and if you camp out you may see the famous sea turtles.
Red Frog Beach - On Isla Bastimientos. This is Boca's most beautiful beach. Not safe for swimming.
Wizard Beach - a short walk from Bastimentos Town
Zapatillas - Beautiful white sand beaches lined with palms and away from it all.
Warning: Many Bocas beaches have strong undertows and can be dangerous for swimming. Before you swim ask someone locally as to whether it is safe or not.
